Undergraduate Student FLAS Academic Year and Summer Fellowships (University of Pittsburgh)

Each year, the Global Studies Center offers Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships to undergraduates. The FLAS Fellowship is a prestigious award that enables recipients to devote their full time to undergraduate study. Three fellowships are awarded for the academic year. Five fellowships are awarded for the summer.

Eligibility Requirements
Students must be:

  • enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh
  • studying a FLAS-eligible language at the intermediate level or above. FLAS-eligible languages include: Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Hebrew, Persian (Farsi), Portuguese, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu.
  • a US citizen or permanent resident
  • enrolled in the Undergraduate Certificate in Global Studies

Funding (Academic Year)
$10,000 scholarship plus ~$5,000 stipend

Funding (Summer)
$5,000 scholarship plus ~$2,500 stipend
