Pitt Alumni Association Scholarships (University of Pittsburgh)

The Pitt Alumni Association has been awarding scholarships to University of Pittsburgh students for over 20 years.  Their stringent scholarship process ensures that the University can recruit and retain the best and brightest students, thereby enhancing the prestige of the University and every Pitt degree.

The following scholarships are available:

Andrew J. Kuzneski, Jr. Recognition Scholarship
$9,000, renewable for four years
Awarded to an incoming freshman legacy student whose grandparent, parent or sibling is a Pitt alumnus

Hilda M. Willis Freshman Legacy Scholarship
$5,000, renewable for four years
Awarded to an incoming freshman legacy student whose grandparent, parent or sibling is a Pitt alumnus

Graduate Scholarship
$5,000
Awarded to an incoming or currently enrolled Pitt graduate student who also received his/her undergraduate degree from Pitt

Pitt Club and Council Scholarships
Regionally based club and affinity councils fund the entire scholarship the first year.  In subsequent years the alumni association and OAFA match the original award (up to $2,o00).

Dr. Alexander and Frances Minno Graduate Student Resource Fund
Provides financial support to a graduate student enrolled in any school at the University.  Awarded to an incoming or currently enrolled Pitt graduate student who also received his/her undergraduate degree from Pitt.

Tom Ablauf Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student with 24 or more completed credits and proven involvement in one or more of the following areas: Greek Social Organizations, Neuroscience, Omicron Delta Kappa National Honor Society, or Blue & Bold Society.

Anita J. Angus Endowed Alumni Association Athletic Scholarship
Awarded to a Pitt student who is a Pennsylvania resident and a participant in intercollegiate athletics with a particular emphasis on football, basketball or crew.

Robert I. “Cubby” Bearer Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a Pitt student who is a resident of Western PA and has attained the merit of Eagle Scout and who has demonstrated financial need.

Cecile M. Springer Endowed Scholarship
$1,000
Need-based award for an undergraduate student.

Dr. Donald M. Henderson Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to an African American student for tuition based on need.

David A. Lower and Maureen R. McBride Freshman Scholarship and Student Initiative Endowed Fund
Awarded to an incoming student from the Metropolitan Pittsburgh area who demonstrates financial need.

Studienstiftung des Abgeordnetenhauses von Berlin (Berlin House of Representatives Scholarship)

The Studienstiftung des Abgeordnetenhauses von Berlin was founded by the Berlin House of Representatives in 1994 as a late sign of gratitude to the Allied Forces who occupied, befriended, and protected Berlin and its citizens for almost fifty years after the end of World War II.  The Foundation wants to sustain and develop contact with France, Great Britain, the United States, Russia and other successor states of the former Soviet Union.

The Studienstiftung des Abgeordnetenhauses von Berlin sponsors a scholarship program for students and young scholars of all fields from the above-mentioned countries.  During their 10-month stay scholarship holders will not only experience their research areas from an international perspective, but also the political, cultural and social dimensions of public life in Berlin.  The program runs from early October through the end of July.

Eligibility
Students and young scholars from France, Great Britain, the United States, Russia and other successor states of the former Soviet Union are eligible to apply.  Applicants should work on projects that require access to research facilities in Berlin.  The scholarships are awarded according to various criteria, including academic merit and civic engagement.

Funding
The Foundation awards 15 grants per year.  The grants amount to 1,100 EUR for graduate and doctoral students and 1,630 EUR for post-doctoral scholars per month including the rent for the International Study Center Berlin.  In addition, the Foundation pays travel costs to and from Berlin.

Nationality Rooms Scholarships (University of Pittsburgh)

University of Pittsburgh students planning to study abroad may be eligible for Nationality Rooms scholarships.  Scholarships are available for students studying abroad in Africa, Austria, Czech/Slovak Republic, Greece/Greek-speaking Cyprus, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, People’s Republic of China and Taiwan, Poland, and Scotland.  Other scholarships not based on location are also available.  There is also an award available for undergraduate women.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:

  • be a US citizen or permanent resident
  • enrolled as full-time, degree-seeking students at the University of Pittsburgh
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides grants to students actively working for peace and justice.  These need-based scholarships are awarded to those able to do academic work at the university level and who are part of the progressive movement on campus and in the community.  Early recipients worked for civil rights, against McCarthyism, and for peace in Vietnam.  Recent grantees have been active in the struggle against racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of oppression; building the movement for economic justice; and creating peace through international anti-imperialist solidarity.  Applicants must have participated in activities in the US.

Funding
The maximum grant is $10,000 per year

The International Education Financial Aid website, IEFA.org, is an internet resource listing financial aid information for students who wish to study in a foreign country. The website presents a comprehensive listing of grants, scholarships, loan programs and other information to assist students in their quest to study abroad. The website has developed a database of more than 1,500 programs of financial aid for international education.
