Nationality Rooms Scholarships (University of Pittsburgh)

University of Pittsburgh students planning to study abroad may be eligible for Nationality Rooms scholarships.  Scholarships are available for students studying abroad in Africa, Austria, Czech/Slovak Republic, Greece/Greek-speaking Cyprus, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, People’s Republic of China and Taiwan, Poland, and Scotland.  Other scholarships not based on location are also available.  There is also an award available for undergraduate women.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:

  • be a US citizen or permanent resident
  • enrolled as full-time, degree-seeking students at the University of Pittsburgh
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Harris Miller Integrated Field Trip Abroad Scholarship (University of Pittsburgh)

The European Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh has a number of scholarships available for students who plan on studying abroad in summer and fall terms.  To be eligible, students must be enrolled in the West European or European Union Studies Certificate Program.  While some preference is given to students enrolled in “Pitt in…” programs, students enrolled in any study abroad program in Europe are welcome to apply.

An Integrated Field Trip Abroad (IFTA) is a 10 to 14 day long study abroad experience that occurs at the end of the spring term.  An IFTA is linked to a specific spring term course and provides the teacher and students the opportunity to go and study in person what they have been studying throughout the term.  IFTAs are typically worth three credits and count toward graduation requirements.

Students participating in any IFTA may apply for a Harris Miller Integrated Field Trip Abroad Scholarship.  Five scholarships are awarded to help offset the expenses of studying abroad.  The funds are applied as a credit toward the tuition bill for the IFTA.

Friedl E. Kessler Memorial Fellowship (University of Pittsburgh)

The European Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh has a number of scholarships available for students who plan on studying abroad in summer and fall terms.  To be eligible, students must be enrolled in the West European or European Union Studies Certificate Program.  While some preference is given to students enrolled in “Pitt in…” programs, students enrolled in any study abroad program in Europe are welcome to apply.

To help defray the costs of studying abroad, the European Studies Center/European Union Center of Excellence offers the Kessler Fellowship for study or research in Germany. The award is offered to a West European Studies or European Union Studies Certificate Program student on a competitive basis.

  • be studying German
  • have at least a 3.0 QPA

CBA International Internship Program in Paris, France (University of Pittsburgh)

The University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administration (CBA) has established the International Internship Program (IIP) where students participate in a full-time summer internship in Paris, France.  Internships are open to students from all Pitt campuses and departments.

Pitt’s partner in Paris, EUSA, works with students after acceptance to the program to find a suitable internship.  All internships are in French.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:

  • be enrolled in their sophomore or junior year at the University of Pittsburgh
  • have a GPA of at least 3.0
  • have a clear judicial record
  • 5 semesters (or equivalent) of host language

UAS7 (German Universities of Applied Sciences) – Internship Program

UAS7 is a strategic alliance of seven leading German Universities of Applied Sciences committed to excellence in teaching and research.

The Internship Program (IP) is a new option for students interested in hands-on research opportunities at a German university of applied sciences.  Internships offered by UAS7 member faculty allow IP participants to work alongside teams in our campus research laboratories and institutes.  German language is sometimes but often not required for UAS7 Internship Program.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:

  • have prior laboratory experience (academic or otherwise)
  • have sufficient English fluency to function in an international scientific work environment
  • be a degree-seeking student at an accredited US or Canadian college or university (US or Canadian citizenship not required)
  • have a strong academic record; demonstrated preparation for the proposed internship

UAS7 (German Universities of Applied Sciences) – Study & Internship Program

UAS7 is a strategic alliance of seven leading German Universities of Applied Sciences committed to excellence in teaching and research.

Since 2006, the Study and Internship Program (SIP) has enabled highly qualified undergraduates from US and Canadian colleges and universities to experience the German approach to hands-on education at a member of UAS7, a consortium of Germany’s top universities of applied sciences.  SIP students spend a semester studying at a UAS7 campus and a semester interning.  Although most SIP students will apply for internships after arriving in Germany, you can request placement in a UAS7 research laboratory/institute internship in your application.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be:

  • full-time undergraduate students in good academic standing currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited US or Canadian college or university (US or Canadian citizenship is not required)
  • currently enrolled as sophomores or juniors in a field represented on UAS7 campuses: engineering, science, life sciences, business, management, economics, architecture, art, design, journalism, social work

EMGIP Internship Program with German State Parliament – via Cultural Vistas

The Émigré Memorial Internship Program – German State Parliaments (EMGIP) is a fellowship program that provides US and Canadian students with internships at a German State parliament (Landtag).  Internships afford students an excellent opportunity to gain government work experience, improve their advanced German language skills, and learn about German culture firsthand.  This professional opportunity overseas is ideal for students planning on pursuing careers at a regional level of government in the US or Canada, or who have an interest in a specific policy issue such as the environment, education, or healthcare.

Eligibility Requirements
Candidates for EMGIP must:

  • be a US or Canadian citizen
  • be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at accredited US or Canadian colleges and universities before, during and after the program
  • be 18-30 years of age
  • have high-intermediate German skills (oral and written)
  • have a minimum of two years of university level studies in a field related to one of the following: international relations, public administration, political science, law, economics, European studies with emphasis on Germany, German or German studies, with a minor in one of the fields listed
  • have some relevant work experience (e.g. internship, volunteer work, summer job)
